Adding a Modem

The FriendlyNET FR3004LC and FR3004C Cable/DSL Routers can be attached to an external modem for when your broadband service is not functioning properly. This guide will show you how to connect an set up your modem.

1. Connecting your Modem

  1. Disconnect the modem from your computer and switch it off.
  2. Connect the modem's serial cable to the router as shown below.
  3. Turn the modem on
  4. Reset the router by unplugging its power cable and re-plugging it.


1. Configuring your Router
  1. Start your web browser. Type http://192.168.123.254 Into your browser's address or location field and press Enter.
  2. In a few moments you'll see the Login screen for the router. Enter admin (the default password) and click Log in.
  3. Click the Setup button from the top of the page.
  4. You will see a screen similar to this:

Analog/ISDN Modem Setup
ISP Phone Number
Username
Password
Primary DNS Server (optional)
Secondary DNS Server (optional)
Maximum Idle Time Seconds Auto-reconnect
Baud Rate
Additional Modem Settings (optional)

5. Fill in the information provided to you by your ISP. (For a detailed explanation of each field, please refer to the "Analog/ISDN Modem Setup" section of the FAQ item "How do I know what kind of WAN (Wide Area Network) I have?".) Click "Save" and then the "Restart Router" button. Your router is now configured for modem access.
