Step 1: Recording your TCP/IP Settings

  • From the Windows Start button, choose Run.
  • In the dialog box, type winipcfg and click OK.
  • Click the More info >>> button.

It will look similar to this:

  1. Choose your computer's ethernet adapter from the first drop down list. Tip: The PPP setting is usually for your dial-up analog modem. Don't choose this selection.
  2. Expand this dialog box by clicking the More Info >> button.
  3. Record all of your current settings. You can either write them down or fill out this form and print it.
  4. Close the winipcfg program by clicking the OK button.
