Basic Troubleshooting: AsanteTalk

1. AsanteTalk with Mac OS 10.5.

To restore the printing functionality in OS 10.5 or later, please follow this procedure:
  1. Make sure the printer, computer, AsanteTalk (and router, hub or switch if used) are powered up.
  2. Wait until all devices are completely booted up.
  3. The AsanteTalk lights for power and link should both be on.
  4. Go to system preferences, network Click on advanced.
  5. Make sure that AppleTalk is active on the Ethernet port you are using. Remember that some newer Macs have more than one Ethernet port.
  6. Open the printer list (system preferences, print and fax)
  7. If your printer shows up delete it (that may be an old status)
Add a printer
  1. When not found, choose more printers
  2. When the add printer box comes up, choose something besides AppleTalk for a moment
  3. Unplug the little black power cord from the AsanteTalk for 5-10 seconds
  4. Plug it back in.
  5. Quickly (within 5 seconds) go back to your computer and change the add printer protocol selection to AppleTalk.
  6. The transmit light on the AsanteTalk should blink periodically for a while
  7. Wait from ten seconds to as long as three minutes
  8. The printer should appear in the add printer box
  9. Select the printer and finish the add printer process
  10. Your printer should now be ready to use.
2. AsanteTalk With MacOS X

To restore the printing functionality in OS 10, please follow this procedure:
  1. Make sure the printer, computer, AsanteTalk (and router, hub or switch if used) are powered up.
  2. Wait until all devices are completely booted up.
  3. The AsanteTalk lights for power and link should both be on.
  4. Go to system preferences, network
  5. Make sure "show" lists Ethernet.
  6. Go to the AppleTalk tab
  7. Make sure the "make AppleTalk Active" box is checked
  8. Open the printer list (system preferences, print and fax)
  9. If your printer shows up delete it (that may be an old status)
Add a printer
  1. When not found, choose more printers
  2. When the add printer box comes up, choose something besides AppleTalk for a moment
  3. Unplug the little black power cord from the AsanteTalk for 5-10 seconds
  4. Plug it back in.
  5. Quickly (within 10 seconds) go back to your computer and change the add printer protocol selection to AppleTalk.
  6. The transmit light on the AsanteTalk should blink rapidly within a few seconds
  7. Wait 10-60 seconds
  8. The printer should appear in the add printer box
  9. Select the printer and finish the add printer process
  10. Your printer should now be ready to use.
3. AsanteTalk With MacOS 8/9

To use the AsanteTalk in Mac OS 8 or OS 9, follow this procedure.
  1. Remove the power cord from the AsanteTalk (at least 10seconds)
  2. Open your chooser
  3. Plug the power cord back into the AsanteTalk
  4. Close the chooser and reopen it.
  5. Wait at least 2 minutes.
  6. Your printer may show up again at this point.
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Power cycle the AsanteTalk again.
  9. Open the Chooser
  10. Your printer should now show up and be usable.
