Schematic below outlines a basic home/small office internet setup. This is a typical setup. This document explains how to troubleshoot and restore your internet connection in case it has been lost.
In order for PC1, PC2 or any other device associated with Asante router to be able to connect to internet, the following conditions must be met. Please note that all the IP addresses mentioned below are example IP addresses only.
In our example,
PC1 is connected via Ethernet cable to the Asante router.
PC2 is wirelessly connected to the Asante router.
The IP address 24.192.192.24 is a WAN, Internet or Public IP address. This IP address has been assigned to Asante router by the service provider (Telco or Cable Company).

When your internet connection has been lost, due to a maintenance performed by service provider or any other natural issues such as a power outage you need to be able to check and make sure that the router is obtaining a WAN/Internet IP address from your internet service provider. Most of the time, this is the cause of disconnect from internet. Follow a procedure to check and have the router request for this IP address again.
Load your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox,…..) and connect to Asante router using the default IP address. The default IP address for all Asante routers is http://192.168.123.1
The following login page should appear:

Enter your username and password that you had created when you first setup the router and click on OK to login.
After login, click on Advance Setup and click on Status box as shown below:

In Status page, you should see the following information. Check and make sure that there is an IP address as circled below. In our example, it should match the IP that has been assigned by service provider:

If the above field is reporting an Internet IP address of 0.0.0.0, then follow the procedure below to obtain an IP address. The router will not be able to connect to internet with an IP address of 0.0.0.0.
Step 1: Close your browser and turn off both the Asante router and your Cable or DSL modem. Wait for about 3 minutes.
Step 2: Turn on the Asante router and wait until all the light are on. This will probably take about 1 minute. Please note that the second light next to power light will stay off since your Cable/DSL modem is off.
Step 3: Turn on your Cable/DSL modem and wait until all the lights are established on the modem. The second light next to power light on the Asante router should now be on.

Step 4: Open your browser. If you are able to connect to internet, then you have received an IP address and your connection is back up. If you are unable to connect to internet, then check all of your wired connections and try this procedure again.
