How to restore the Asante Smarthub routers to factory defaults
Applies to Asante Smarthub routers 300N, 550N and 600N

In some cases, you might need or want to restore an Asante Smarthub router to factory defaults. For example, if you have misplaced the username and password to login to configuration page of Asante Smarthub routers, then you might want to factory reset the unit so that you can introduce a new username and password for login. To factory reset the router, first disconnect all the cables from the router except the power. Leave the power connected. With a pen, press and hold down the reset button for about 15-20 seconds. Usually on all of these models, you will notice that the lights will blink and they start over to reestablish.

After the above steps have been completed, connect your LAN cable from the PC or MAC to one of the 4 ports on the back of the router.

Load your browser. You should be prompted to login to your Asante's router. All of the AWRT routers should show something similar to screenshot below (with some minor differences).

Please go ahead and enter username for Administrator or leave it as admin and enter a password twice. This is for you to be able to login to router and configure or manage it.

If the page does not come up, in the URL line type in: smarthub and press enter. This should load the configuration page as described above. If it still does not come up, make sure that your PC is connected via a wired connection to one of the four LAN ports on the router (Gray ports) and the link light for that port is on. You can also connect to the router with the IP address as shows above (default IP: 192.168.123.1) by specifying the IP in the URL line of your browser.

Next steps:

1. Asante Smarthub is equipped with a hotspot option mostly used in businesses such as coffee shops, restaurants and businesses. This option will introduce authentication for security in addition to wireless security. Please note that this hotspot feature should not be confused with wireless authentication. This option is to be able to assign a username and password for customers who come into the business location to connect to internet and then take away their access once they leave the area. When this option is enabled, after you enter your wireless password and load the browser, you will be prompted to login again with a username and password before connection to internet is allowed. To disable the hotspot feature, after login, click on Advance Setup click on Administration select the disabled option for EZ Setup and click on Save Settings at the bottom of the page.

If you are using any device such as a Smartphone, wireless DVR or Roku box, then the router’s hotspot feature needs to be programmed to work with these devices. If you disable the hotspot feature, then no configuration is required and the router will work with any device.

2. If you have completed the step above and have selected save settings, after about 30 seconds, the router will ask you to login again. Please login with same credentials. This time, click on wireless, click on Wireless Security at the top of the page.

You should see that for the first time setup, this option is set to "Disabled". From the pull down menu, select your choice of Authentication (WPA2-psk or Personal is the best for any user). Enter the Passphrase of your choice. This will be your wireless security code that you will use to connect any device to the router wirelessly. Leave everything else as default. Click on Save Settings. This should complete the configuration and you should be able to connect to internet at this point.

This should complete the configuration. Please try to connect to your router wirelessly using the password (passphrase) created in above step.
