Using EZ Setup in MAC
After login or at the last stage in EZ Setup, one can press the ‘exit/start to use’ button to go to the internet. In MAC, after this button is pressed, a pop-up window will appear. Just press OK to close the pop-up and select a desired URL in the bookmark area to go to your favorite web site.

Create a ‘hot spot’ at home
A hot spot is created if users can connect to the internet via a login process using user name/password. The EZ Setup of Smarthub is created just for this. This feature is enabled by default and it is simple to use.

Achieve wireless speed greater than 54 Mbps
A wireless speed greater than that of 802.11G (54 Mbps) can be achieved if the wireless security of Smarthub is configured to use "No security", or "Security Mode": WPA-Personal or above, Encryption : AES.

Connect to SmartHub in Windows 7 if it is used for the first time or after it has been reset
When the screen below appears, click on the line 'connect to the network without setting it up' to connect.

Then click on the pop-up window in picture below . The router login page should appear.

When connecting to SmarHub is stuck in ‘Validating identity’ phase in Window XP ...
In windows XP, if the router's wireless network does not appear in the list of wireless networks, connecting to the router will stall in the phase of 'validating identity' if the router's wireless security is set to WEP. One can follow the steps below to resolve this problem:

  • Start ->Control Panel->Network Connection
  • Right click on the target wireless network icon and select 'View Available Wireless Networks'
  • On the 'Wireless Network Connection' page, select 'Change Advanced settings' under 'Related Tasks' on the left of the page
  • Select 'Wireless Networks' tab on the top of the new page (Wireless Network Connection Properties)
  • Select the network you want to connect and click on 'Properties'
  • On the new page select the 'Authentication' tab, and uncheck the box on the left of 'Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network' and click 'ok'
  • Click 'ok' again to close the 'Wireless Network Connection Properties' page.

Some examples of Smarthub usage using EZ Setup.
EZ Setup is used for easy internet connection setup, configuring and managing users. SmartHub is shipped with EZ Setup enabled. EZ Setup can be disabled in the Advanced Setup section after login. If the EZ Setup is disabled, SmartHub can be used as a regular wireless router.

  • Connect a network printer to SmartHub : Make sure that the MAC address of the printer network interface is added to the list of 'non-computer user' of the Smarthub.
  • Cascade a router to SmartHub : This is the case where a router is cascaded to a SmartHub, i.e., the WAN port of the router is connected to a LAN port of Smarthub. Make sure that the MAC address of the WAN interface of the cascading router must be added to the list of 'non-computer user' of SmartHub.
  • After exiting from EZ Setup, login page reappears again : Sometimes this is due to DNS request timeouts. Just close the current browser and restart another one.
  • Applications such as email that access internet do not work after the SmartHub is reboot . : Reconnect to the SmartHub again if the host was connected via wireless interface. If via wire interface, configure IP (if DHCP was used) again. Launch any browser. The login page should appear. If not, just type 'smarthub' or the IP address of the SmartHub local interface. Login and exit to use internet.

Connect SmartHub to a cable/DSL modem.
If the internet service is provided by your ISP via a cable/DSL modem connecting your host directly, follow the steps below to add the SmartHub to your network and the feature of supporting multiple hosts to access the internet.

  • Remove the host from the modem disconnecting the connecting cable.
  • If there a RESET button on the modem, press it till the LEDs on the modem start to flash. Wait for the flash to become stable. This may take up to several minutes. This operation is intended to flush out the old DHCP entry for the host that was connected to the modem before. If there is no RESET button on the modem, power off the modem and power up the modem again after 10 sec to 2 minutes depending on the modem and your ISP.
  • Connect SmartHub according to the picture in 'SmartHub Installation Note'.
  • Connect the host to a LAN port of SmartHub. Make sure that the host is configured to get its IP address via DHCP.
  • Wait for one minute and use 'ipconfig' (if host is a Windows system) to check if the IP address has been acquired or not. If not, reset SmartHub and power cycle it to start its operation again. Check the host IP address again.
  • Launch the browser from the host, the SmartHub login page should appear. If not, type 'smarthub' on the URL line of the browser to bring up the login page.
  • Follow EZ setup to configure the SmartHub and verify the internet connection.
  • If the internet connection is not valid, the chances are that you have a problem of the connection between the SmartHub and the cable/DSL modem. Go to (2) again and repeat the subsequent steps. If not successful, call your ISP provider to ask them to reset the modem interface so a new IP address can be allocated to the SmartHub. The other alternative is to use 'MAC address clone' (see item 5) to configure the SmartHub to behave like your old host so the IP address can be allocated as if your old host were connected to the modem.

Use MAC address clone to connect to Smarthub to a cable/DSL modem.
This feature can be used to provide an alternative method to connect SmartHub to a cable/DSL modem to provide internet access following the steps below.

  • Follow steps 1 to 6 of the previous item.
  • Login to SmartHub and go to 'Advanced Setup'.
  • Go to MAC address clone page.
  • Click on radio 'Enabled' and press 'Clone my PCs MAC'. The MAC address of the host connected to the SmartHub should appear in the MAC address fields.
  • Click 'Save Settings' to save configuration.
  • Go back to EZ setup by clicking on 'EZ Setup' on the left panel.
  • Follow EZ setup to configure the SmartHub and verify the internet connection.

How do you manage Smarthub remotely.
Remote management of SmartHub is disabled by default. Follow the steps below to enable it.

  • Login to SmartHub and goto 'Advanced Setup' if EZ Setup is enabled.
  • Goto administration page and enable 'remote access' .
  • Select a 'Web Utility Access'.
  • Click on 'Save Settings'.

To login to SmarHub remotely, follow the steps below:

  • Launch internet browser.
  • Use IP address of SmartHub WAN(Internet connection) interface as the URL with port 8080,e.g., if the WAN IP is 123.111.111.111, enter http://123.111.111.111:8080 as URL and press 'enter'. The login page should appear.
